Gurgaon: A 19-year-old has been arrested for allegedly murdering a vendor after altercation over a bottle of water police said Monday.
The accused Umesh Chauhan was arrested for killing 34-year-old Nirmal Soni on Khandsa Road near Sabzi Mandi on April 30.
Chauhan, who comes from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, was living in Gurgaon's Saraswati Enclave. The victim used to sell snacks and water near the market.
"Chauhan demanded a bottle of water April 30 evening (from Soni), saying he does not have money for it. On being denied, he stabbed Soni more than five times. Soni died on the spot," Rajender Singh, an official told IANS.
The accused was arrested by police on the basis of information provided by his accomplice Jitender.
"We have taken Umesh Chauhan on remand for two days," Mr Singh added.
