Hit By Hailstorm, Bhutan-Bangkok Flight Lands Safely In Guwahati

Airport officials said the aircraft was grounded due to bad weather.

Guwahati: A Druk Air flight from Paro to Bangkok had a close shave as it was caught in a hailstorm just before the plane was about to land at the Guwahati's Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi airport this afternoon.

Airport sources said the Druk Air flight KB 140, with 90 passengers on board, landed safely around 3:30 pm. But passengers lived through some tense moments as the plane passed through turbulent weather.

An alternate flight was later arranged by the Druk Air authorities to ensure that the passengers reach their destination safely.

The flight was grounded at Guwahati as the aircraft - an Airbus 320 - has suffered in the front portion, airport sources said.

"The aircraft was at the take-off point when the weather deteriorated. There was thunder, and hailstorms partially damaged the nose of the aircraft and there were dents on its wings and body," an official said.

There was, however, no official communication from the Guwahati airport and the airport director was not available for any comments.

On Saturday, the weather in Guwahati was inclement through the day but visibility suddenly dropped by 2pm and flight movement was affected.
