Cardiovascular Diseases Leading Cause Of Deaths In India: Government

New Delhi: Cardiovascular diseases account for 26 per cent of all deaths in the country, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.

"As per the estimates in the World Health Organisation NCD Country Profile 2014, CVD (Cardio-vascular disease) is the leading cause of deaths in India and accounts for 26 per cent of all deaths," Health Minister JP Nadda said in a written reply.

Management of Acute Coronary Event registry's feasibility study by Indian Council of Medical Research undertaken for small number of patients from 13 hospitals in 12 states (including registries in difficult terrains of the country) showed a medium time of symptoms onset to door of 15 hours and that of onset of symptoms to first medical contact of 2.5 hours, indicating a delay in transfer of these cases to Acute Coronary Event care hospitals, he said.
