Hyderabad:

A teenager died after allegedly sustaining injuries during a WWE-style neighbourhood wrestling match in Hyderabad's Old City area. The others present during the "match" passed it off as an accident -- and even staged one to fake the injuries, the police said. The incident - which took place on May 3 -- was uncovered only when the boy's father insisted that it be investigated.

What helped the police was a cellphone video of the "match" recorded by one of the onlookers. In the video, two young men are seen scuffling on the roadside. Finally, after a flurry of blows on the head, one of them collapses. The boy, a 17-year-old, died on the spot.

Panicked, the group decided to say it was a case of bike accident. Police say they even staged an accident, took the body to the hospital and informed the family.

The family believed their story and the funeral was held the day after.

But the boy's father, who came back from Dubai - where he works as a driver -- smelled a fish and called in the police.

During interrogation, one of the boys confessed to the incident and the video surfaced on Friday. The police have taken him and two others, in custody.

The boys told the police that they regularly organise such fights in MIr Chowk, in which two people face-off against each other in an open space.

Police sources said the body will be exhumed tomorrow for the postmortem examination.
