Five members of a family committed suicide on Saturday in Ranga Reddy district near Hyderabad, police said.
A woman along with her two daughters and a son ended their lives by jumping before a train early on Saturday, a few hours after her husband committed suicide.
The shocking incident occurred at Ankushapur in Ghatkesar mandal of Ranga Reddy district, about 80 km from Hyderabad.
According to police, Satyanarayana, 58, who was working in the irrigation department in Adilabad district, committed suicide by consuming poison late on Friday night.
Unable to bear his loss, his wife Meera, 51, their daughters Swati, 33, Neelima, 28, and son Shivaramakrishna, 22, also took the extreme step.
The cause of the suicides were believed to be due to financial and health problems, police added.
