A still taken from the CCTV footage shows the two school boys fighting
Hyderabad:
On CCTV footage, it appears to be any schoolyard fight between two boys, perhaps a little more fierce than usual. This argument, however, ended with the tragic death of one boy and the detention of the other.
A Class 10 boy of St Joseph school appeared before a juvenile court today, a day after his classmate Amir Siddiqui died of internal injuries.
The two boys allegedly fought over a minor issue and were spotted by a teacher on CCTV raining punches on each other during lunchbreak. The teacher rushed to stop them but multiple, heavy blows had been exchanged by then.
Amir fell unconscious and was taken to hospital, where doctors performed a brain surgery to remove a clot. But the teen never recovered, and died early on Wednesday morning.
"These two were very mild children. I don't know what caused the fight," said LS Reddy, the school principal.
Senior Hyderabad police officer Kamalasan Reddy told NDTV that a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered. He said the boy accused of causing the death accidentally is likely to be sent home after counselling.
None of the boys were known in school for violent behavior, say the police.
