Hyderabad: A senior scientist of the National Academy of Agricultural Research Management was murdered in a house under construction at Maitripuram under the Saroornagar police station limits on Thursday.
LB Nagar assistant commissioner of police J Amarender Reddy said the assailants who slit the throat of Modugula Narayana Reddy (48), also attacked the watchman of the house, who went to the rescue of the scientist.
Narayana Reddy along with his wife Sarada was residing at Vasavi Colony in Kothapet.
His daughter Srilatha, a software engineer, is married to Venkataramana Reddy, who is also a software engineer. The couple stays in Bangalore. His daughter is constructing a house at Maitripuram.
Narayana Reddy, who hailed from Chandur village in Tenali of Guntur district, came to oversee the construction work when he was attacked by the assailants with lethal weapons.
On hearing the cries of Narayana Reddy, watchman Satyanarayana went to his rescue. The watchman fell unconscious when the assailants attacked him. Auto driver Suresh who tried to catch hold of the assailants while they were fleeing, was also attacked.
"We are yet to come to a conclusion on the motive behind the murder. We are probing the case from all angles," the ACP said.
Narayana Reddy's son is mentally-challenged and stays at home. According to his family members, they do not have any property or financial dispute with anyone.
Saroornagar police registered a case.
