The orphanage is making children ask for alms on the pretext of pooling money for Christmas
Hyderabad:
A police case has been filed against a private orphanage in Hyderabad after some children residing in the institution were reportedly found begging on roads.
Gracious Paradise Orphanage, located in Vanashtalipuram, is making children ask for alms on the pretext of pooling money for Christmas, says activist Achyuta Rao, calling it a severe violation of child rights.
Mr Rao points out that sending the children out on the road and also having boys and girls living together in the same shelter could expose them to risk.
A child rights organization, Balala Hakkula Sangar, has informed the child welfare committee, and lodged a complaint with Vanashtalipuram police, demanding the arrest of the organisers.
The child rights organization has demanded that the child welfare committee should merge this orphanage with government-run homes or the government should take charge of it. They have also demanded action against orphanages running without fit institution certificate.
