A 16-year-old boy allegedly died by suicide in his classroom at a residential school near Hyderabad on Tuesday. The Class 11 student, who was from a nearby town, was found hanging in his class by his classmates, said police.
He hanged himself with a nylon rope used for drying clothes, they added. A purported suicide note was recovered by the cops. The note reportedly said that he is not able to cope with "torture and hell at hostel". It also said "please look after Mom so she doesn't miss me".
The student, who was preparing for competitive exams, went missing after the study hours that ended at 10 pm. A frantic search of all rooms in the school led to the discovery of his body.
The other students took a lift from a stranger to take the student a nearby hospital where he was declared dead, police told NDTV. It's not clear why the hostel warden did not arrange a vehicle.
One of the victim's friends alleged that pressure to perform better in exams had driven him to suicide. Meanwhile, his family members staged a protest in front of the college, demanding justice.
A school staff, Acharya, has been named as an accused for the student's suicide. Students too have accused him of torturing and harassment.
The school has declared an unofficial holiday for two days and sent the students home.
