Hyderabad: The Union Civil Aviation Ministry on Thursday issued an order naming the domestic terminal at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Hyderabad, after N T Rama Rao, the founder of the Telugu Desam Party, the ruling party of Andhra Pradesh.
A senior official of the GMR Group, which manages the airport, confirmed the development and said it would comply with the order.
Though the the airport will carry the name of Rajiv Gandhi, the domestic terminal will bear the name of N T Rama Rao, former Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh, and this is just a restoration of the situation at Begumpet Airport, the official told PTI quoting the ministry notification.
At Begumpet, the international terminal was named after Rajiv Gandhi and domestic terminal after NTR. The Begumpet airport was closed for scheduled aircraft after the RGIA became operational in 2008.
