A 19-year-old student, who was studying in an engineering college in Chennai and came home on Diwali, hanged himself at his house in Nizampet area in Hyderabad alleging after being hazed by his seniors in the institution.
V Krishna Chaitanya, a second-year B Tech student at a private college in Chennai, hanged himself to the ceiling fan at his house late last night, leaving behind an eight-page suicide note which said he faced extreme 'ragging' by his seniors, police said.
The note details the ordeal that purportedly suffered at the hands of five third-year students who also lived in the same hostel.
The seniors beat up Krishna when he refused to do their work, he wrote, adding that after one such attack he had to be hospitalised.
One of the seniors even allegedly forced him to buy a mobile phone for one of the seniors using the money that his father sent every month.
Krishna wrote that he came home for Diwali to spend time with his family after deciding to end his life.
"Following a complaint from Krishna's family members, we have registered a case of abatement to suicide under section 306 of IPC and under relevant sections of Anti-Ragging Act," he said, adding that the case will now be transferred to a police station concerned in Chennai.
