The police have sent hookah samples for testing to check if any narcotic was being given to the minors.
Four hookah parlours which were catering to minors have been raided in Hyderabad. Twenty minors were found in the raids that took place late on Monday night.
The police have filed 20 cases against the parlours and are also checking if instead of tobacco, some narcotic was being slipped to the teenagers.
A Venkateshwer Rao, Deputy Commissioner of Police for West Zone told NDTV they have sent samples of material to the Forensic Sciences Laboratory.
The parents of the young people were called in and the minors were counselled in their presence. Five months ago, more than 20 minors were found in hookah parlours.
There are at least 50 hookah parlours in the city's West Zone area and it is often crowded with youngsters, especially over the weekend. In February 2014, the Andhra Pradesh High Court has said the entry of minors into hookah parlors should not be encouraged.
One of the parents said he hoped the police action would at least restrict hookah centres, which seemed to be becoming dens for substance abuse and a part of the lifestyle of youngsters.
"How dangerous is it when an unsuspecting youngster gets addicted to a hookah spiked with some narcotic," he said.
