Hyderabad: A second-year college student in Hyderabad has died after allegedly being beaten by a senior inside his classroom on Saturday.
The victim, Harshavardhan Rao, had reportedly objected to his senior allegedly teasing a girl in his class. According to eyewitnesses, the senior student came to Harshavardhan's classroom and hit him on the face and stamped him on his chest as well.
Harshavardhan's brother Tribhuvan told NDTV that his brother was a soft-spoken man who had paid a price for standing up to protect a girl.
''There have been incidents of violence against juniors and sexual harassment against girls in the college but the management never paid any attention,'' he said.
Students say the management did not respond even after Harshavardhan was beaten up. They themselves took an unconscious Harshavardhan to Aditya hospital and then shifted him to Care hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police have booked a case of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
"It was a fight between two students. The senior student struck Harshavardhan during the fight. Harshavardhan got hurt and became unconscious. He was taken to the hospital, where he died," said Investigating Officer G Srinivas.
