Hyderabad: Fearing to be HIV positive, man kills family

Hyderabad: A poultry businessman, who was under the impression that he was HIV positive, allegedly killed his wife and two children today in Nalgonda district, police said.

P Lingaswamy killed his wife Jayapradha (27) and two children Ramya (8) and Sachin (7) by strangulating them one by one in his house at Chotuppal in Nalgonda, they said, adding he attempted suicide later by consuming some poisonous substance and banging his head against the wall.

"We suspect that Lingaswamy thought that he was HIV positive and therefore killed his family members. It also seems he was having an affair with another woman. The exact reason can be known only after interrogating Lingaswamy, who is presently unconscious," Chotuppal Circle Inspector M Thirupatnna said.

"Lingaswamy strangulated his wife and two children by calling them inside the room one by one and bolting the door from inside. His sister who had gone out when the incident occurred noticed blood flowing out from the room after Lingaswamy injured himself by hitting himself against the wall," he said.

She raised an alarm after which neighbours and policemen broke open the door and found three bodies while Lingaswamy was in an unconscious state, he added.
