On a busy Hyderabad street, a man was chased and stabbed multiple times with a butcher's knife until he stopped moving. Several gory videos have surfaced online, proof that many watched and filmed the horrifying crime on their phones but didn't try to stop it. A traffic policeman is seen trying to stop the killer, but retreating. Bikers, autorickshaws and some pedestrians pause, but again, no one intervenes.
In another video of the incident, the attacker, his clothes soaked in blood, can be seen sitting next to the mutilated body, ranting that he deserved to be killed.
Abdul Khaja, 29, owns an auto rickshaw and rents it for a living. Senior police officer Amber Kishor said that he had a fight with an auto driver, Shakeer Quereshi, on one of the busiest stretches in the city near Nayapul in Mir Chowk. The fight escalated and finally, Mr Khaja stabbed Quereshi, 30, on the neck.
"The accused has been taken into custody and has been charged with murder," said the police officer.
The incident is a chilling reminder of a daylight murder that took place in Attarpur area of the city in September when two men chased a man on a street and hacked him to death with an axe in the presence of policemen.
