Three women and a man were today arrested for allegedly trying to sell a new-born baby girl in Bansilalpet area in Hyderabad, police said.
The 15-day-old baby girl was rescued and handed over to the Child Welfare Department.
According to Gandhi Nagar police, Venkatlakshmi, the girl's mother, was in need of money, and tried to sell her daughter to a woman called Madhavi for Rs 20,000 through two agents, Gangadhar Reddy and Sridevi.
Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid and nabbed all four red-handed from a house, Gandhi Nagar Police Inspector A Sanjeeva Rao said.
"All the four persons including the mother have been booked under the Juvenile Justice Act. The baby has been handed over to the Child Welfare Department," he said.
