Hyderabad:
A blockbuster catch of eight kilos of gold has been made in Hyderabad from an emirates flight that had landed from Dubai, and was meant to continue to Chennai.
Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence are reluctant to reveal details of either the smuggling operation or the raid this morning because they are worried about endangering the arrest of those involved; suspects include airport employees who are now being questioned, they said.
Officials who did not want to be quoted yet told NDTV that they had acted on specific intelligence and it was part of a "major conspiracy" in which many people could be involved.
In March, a passenger had left about nine kilos of gold worth more than two crores behind a seat on a plane that had originated in Dubai and landed in Hyderabad after other stops. It was suspected that the gold had been left for airline staff to carry out of the aircraft and airline.
More details are awaited.
