Hyderabad:
A 28-year-old man who allegedly cheated as many as eight young women under the pretext of marrying them was arrested on Tuesday by the Central Crime Station (CCS) wing of the Hyderabad police.
Motaparthy Vamshi Krishna, got his name registered on matrimonial sites seeking marriage alliances and allegedly went on to cheat eight girls, besides taking money from them to the tune of several lakh of rupees," the police said.
Vamshi, used to impress girls and their families by visiting them in high-end vehicles and inviting them for lunch or dinner, they said.
The accused informed victims that his father resided abroad and he would marry only after his return to India.
"Once they believe him, Vamshi used to exploit them by taking money from them on some pretext. When the victims or their families began to doubt him, Vamshi used to remove SIM cards from his cell phone and escape," the police said in a release issued here today.
The accused allegedly showed Vijayawada MLA Vallabhaneni Vamshi's house at Jubilee Hills to his victims from outside, claiming it to be his own house.
He had a photograph showing himself posing with former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and claimed that he is very influential cadre of the Telugu Desam Party.
Previously, he was arrested in the year 2010 by S R Nagar police in a con job case, where he extorted money from brothels posing to be a mediaperson, the release said.
