Nigerian national Ghazeem was beaten by a neighbour over parking issue in Hyderabad's Banjara Hills area

Hyderabad: A 23-year-old Nigerian student in Hyderabad was wounded in the head allegedly after being hit with a rod following a dispute over car parking in the Banjara Hills area. His attacker, a neighbour, has been arrested.

Amid anger among African nations over the lynching of a Congo national in Delhi last week, Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj has asked for a report on the Hyderabad incident.

The police say an argument broke out on Wednesday night when Damilola Kazeem, a third-year Nigerian student, parked his car at the spot reserved for a neighbour, Mohammad Gaffar.

The two started fighting when Mr Ghazeem allegedly refused to budge. The police say Mr Gafoor took out a rod and hit the student on his head.

"There was no racial motive," said police officer Srinivas.

On Friday last, 29-year-old Masonda Ketada Olivier from Congo was beaten to death in south Delhi's Vasant Kunj, allegedly over an argument over an auto-rickshaw. The three men who attacked Mr Olivier chased him and threw bricks at him till he fell unconscious.

The group of envoys of African nations wrote a letter to the government saying that "Africa Day" celebrations this week must be put off and India should first tackle the problem of "racism and Afro-phobia".
