Hyderabad:
Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council Chairman A Chakrapani today issued notices to three Congress MLCs asking them to reply within a week to the disqualification petition submitted against them by the party.
The ruling Congress had sought disqualification Pulla Padmavathi, Konda Murali and S V Mohan Reddy from the Upper House saying they were actively supporting Jagan and were critical of the Congress leadership, including party chief Sonia Gandhi, for the past one year.
Congress Whip in the Council Sivarami Reddy had submitted a petition on January 13 seeking their disqualification for defying the party and aligning with YSR Congress President Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.
Based on the petition and the "evidence" submitted with it, the Council Chairman issued notices to the three MLCs seeking their explanation on the issue, Council sources said.
The move comes at a time when disqualification petitions against 16 Congress MLAs and one of Praja Rajyam Party for voting against the Government during the no-confidence motion in early December are pending before Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar.
Incidentally, Konda Murali's wife Surekha, an MLA from Warangal district, is also facing disqualification proceedings.
