Hyderabad: An 11.7 kg gold crown, worth over Rs 3 crores will be presented by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to the Goddess Bhadrakali at Warangal tomorrow, on the occasion of Durga Navratri.
The offering is towards fulfilment of Mr Rao's vow, which he had made during the agitation for a separate Telangana.
The headdress was commissioned by the Telangana government from a leading Hyderabad jeweller and Mr Rao inspected the finished crown himself last night.
This is not the first time that Mr Rao's actions have raised eyebrows. In December 2015, NDTV had reported how a religious ceremony organised on behalf of Mr Rao had run up bills running into several crores. While he clarified that the expenses were met from his personal funds with contributions from well-wishers, the high expenditure was criticised for being extravagant at a time when the state's own finances were in a precarious position.
