Temple priest attacked in Kadapa

Kadappa: The priest of a local temple was injured in an attack by a youth who was allegedly under the influence of liquor, police said today.

Narayana Swamy, priest of centuries-old Sri Lakshiminarayana Swamy Temple, was assaulted with a knife last night, Circle Inspector Nageswar Reddy said.

Swamy, who suffered injuries in his head, face and finger, was admitted in Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences where he was stated to be out of danger, he said.

The attacker, Pathan Yousaf Khan (20), who was drunk at the time of the incident, has been taken into custody, he said.

However, it was not known what led Khan to attack the priest.

The temple has been closed down for three days from today to protest against the incident.

Archaka Samakya, a representative body of people working in temples, staged a sit-in against the attack.
