Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police today announced the launching of Wi-Fi in all police stations and units under its jurisdiction.
"With an another initiative in making the entire work area of Hyderabad Police a Wi-Fi zone, all police stations (both L&O and Traffic), have now been equipped with Wi-Fi routers connected through high speed internet connectivity that enables a virtual single office," Hyderabad Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy said.
Similarly, all offices of Central Armed Reserve, Central Security Wing, Special Branch, Task Force besides offices of Assistant Commissioners of Police and Deputy Commissioners of Police have also been brought under Wi-Fi, he said.
"The objective of providing Wi-Fi in work areas is to improve collaboration between staff within and across the department by accessing internet simultaneously thereby leading to better decision making, helping them meet their deadlines, sharing of data, information, access to department business applications and systems remotely, improving communication," Commissioner Reddy said.
The latest initiative will help in accessing the department business applications such as Crime and Criminal data, Daily progress of activities by all police personnel simultaneously, he said.
"It will also help in tracking and monitoring the movement of Patrol and Blue Colts vehicles to reach the incident spot in time," the Hyderabad Police chief said.
He said it will further improve communication and collaboration within and across departments thus enhancing productivity.
Citizens reaching the police stations can share the data stored in their devices with police required for investigation or any other purpose using Wi-Fi distributed network, Commissioner Reddy said.
