New Delhi: Strong objection has been registered by parliamentarians to Sadhvi Prachi, a leader of the right-wing Vishwa Hindu Parishad or VHP, stating that there are "one or two terrorists" in Parliament.

A group of MPs including Sitaram Yechury of the Left and Ghulam Nabi Azad of the Congress say the saffron-rove wearing leader should be punished for her remarks, made yesterday to attack those who opposed the hanging of terrorist Yakub Memon.

In protests, MPs have moved a breach of privilege notice which broadly means they want her penalized for statements that are derogatory to elected representatives.

Memon, 64, was hanged earlier this month for his role in the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai in which 257 people were killed. MPs and prominent citizens had petitioned President Pranab Mukerjee against the execution, stating that they do not support the death penalty.

"When the court has already proved so, those supporting the terrorist are terrorists themselves I believe," Sadhvi Prachi said.

"When someone calls those sitting inside parliament as terrorists, then it is not just an insult to Parliament but also the Constitution," said Congress leader Pramod Tiwari.

Sadhvi Prachi, ran unsuccessfully for the Uttar Pradesh state election in 2012; she has been accused of making hate speeches and is among a group of people who, according to the police, incited the deadly Muzzaffarnagar riots in 2013, in which more than 60 people were killed. She said yesterday that the government should hand over Pakistani terrorist Naved, caught in the Jammu region this week, to "Hindu organizations which alone can teach him a good lesson," according to news agency PTI.
