Srinagar:

A person was killed and over two dozen were injured in clashes that broke out following the encounter of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Riyaz Naikoo in south Kashmir.

According to official sources, a large number of people gathered in Pulwama's Beighpora and adjoining villages on Wednesday and threw stones at security personnel, prompting them to use pellet guns in self-defence.

In visuals of the incident, some of the protesters were seen climbing on top of a bulletproof vehicle of the police; others were seen climbing over a mobile bunker and hitting it with wooden poles and stones.

One of the protesters died and over two dozen protesters were injured in the clashes. The police said they used pellet guns in self-defence. "There was heavy stone throwing on police. Our bunker vehicle was targeted. The mob tried to burn it," said Vijay Kumar, IGP of Kashmir.
