Kupwara: One militant was killed and a security personnel was injured during an encounter at Salkote village in Kupwara district of north Kashmir.
The encounter began this morning after security forces received a tip-off about the presence of a foreign militant in a house in the village.
As the security forces encircled the house, the militant opened fire in which a paratrooper was injured. Security forces retaliated and the militant was killed after an hour-long gunfight.
The identity of the militant was not ascertained immediately.
Police have confirmed that the encounter is over but a search and mopping up operation has been initiated to ascertain if any other suspects are hiding in the area.
