Guwahati:
At least 10 persons, including six NDFB militants, were killed in separate incidents at Assam's strife-ridden twin districts of Karbi Anglong and N C Hills on Tuesday, where a goods train was attacked and houses were torched by unidentified ultras.
In North Cachar Hills district, unidentified gunmen waylaid a vehicle at Nirimbanglo, forced its passengers to disembark and fired at them, killing four persons on the spot, official sources said.
The assailants escaped after committing the crime.
In neighbouring Karbi Anglong district, six National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) militants were killed in an encounter with the Army at Donphat village in Howraghat area. A huge cache of arms was recovered from them.
The encounter took place during an operation by the troops of 13 Guard, defence sources said.
In N C Hills, insurgents fired at a goods train when it was emerging out of a tunnel near Mahur. Security personnel guarding the train retaliated and the exchange of fire continued for sometime. There were no casualties in the firing.
Unidentified ultras also set ablaze 12 houses at Photoningla in Mahur but no one was injured.
All the attacks in N C Hills occurred in areas under Mahur police station limits where three employees of a private company were kidnapped by militants on Monday.
