At least 10 people were killed and eight others were injured after firing in Sonitpur district in Assam.
According to reports, two groups of encroachers, living inside a forest reserve area on the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, fired at each other at around 5:30 pm.
Three other people reportedly were missing, according to the police.
Initial reports say the two groups may have been involved in a property dispute.
