Tiruvarur : Heavy rains have thrown life completely out of gear in many parts of coastal Tamil Nadu. The MET office has forecast very heavy rain over the next 24 hours.
Close to a hundred people have died over the last two weeks due to heavy rain across the state.
Schools and most of the colleges have been shut in nine districts including Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore and Tiruvarur.
Farmers are a worried lot. In Tiruvarur alone 75 thousand acres of paddy cultivation has come under water and the submerged crop will be completely destroyed if there is no immediate respite from the rains.
