At least three people drowned and another six went missing after a group of 15 went swimming in Saryu river in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya on Friday.
As per eyewitness account, 12 of the 15, who had come from Agra to visit the city, got swept away due to strong current while taking a bath in the river at the popular Guptar Ghat.
Six people have been rescued by a team of local police divers, official said.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had instructed senior officers to reach the spot and rescue the people as soon as possible.
The accident happened at the Kutch Ghat of the Guptar Ghat complex. Gupat Ghar is a riverside complex featuring a series of 19th-century banks, temples and shrines.
