Kolkata: A 12-year-old boy, "addicted to cartoon shows", was found suffocated to death after allegedly trying to imitate a suicide scene in his house in West Bengal's Nadia district, police said today.
The incident happened in Krishnaganj on Saturday evening when Class 6 student Tanmay Biswas was discovered hanging from the ceiling with a towel around his neck.
"We have registered a case of unnatural death and it seems he was trying to imitate a hanging scene shown in the TV," a police officer said.
The incident happened when his parents were not at home.
"He was addicted to cartoon shows and would often imitate the scenes. I wanted to take him along but he stayed home to watch TV. Had I compelled him to accompany me, this would not have happened," said his mother, who had gone to visit a neighbour that evening.
His father too said there was no reason for his son to commit suicide.
