Solapur:
130 students were admitted to a hospital in Solapur district of Maharashtra after allegedly consuming folic acid and iron tablets administered at their school. The children complained of stomach ache, loose motion and diarrhoea after taking the medicines.
477 students of the Shri Panchakshari High School in Madarkawthe village were administered the supplementary tablets under a government scheme to counter anemia among children in the state.
Praveen Gedam, District Collector of Solapur, told reporters, "We have seized samples of the tablets and sent them to the Food and Drug Administration authorities. Once we get a report, we will fix responsibility and take further action."
None of the students so far have been reported to be critical. Most were discharged after preliminary treatment, sources said.
The incident, barely days after the horrific tragedy of 23 school children dying in Bihar after eating their mid-day meals, has left the locals scared.
