15 dead in Haryana, Punjab floods; UP hit too

Ambala: Fifteen people have died in floods in Haryana and Punjab, with hundreds of acres of agricultural land under water.

Ambala and Kurukshetra districts in Haryana are the worst affected. They are battling a renewed spate of flood fury, with fresh breaches in the Ghaggar and Tangri Rivers and the Sutlej-Yamuna-Link canal.

The breaches have cut off more two dozen villages around Ambala.

The local administration has swung into action, reaching food and water to the marooned villagers. But what's posing a problem is providing adequate medical assistance.

The Army has been called in to fix the breaches.

Train services on the New Delhi-Ambala section which were severely hit in the last three days due to flooding of tracks, have also been restored.

A flood alert has also been sounded in ten districts of western Uttar Pradesh with swelling of Yamuna while water level in Ganga was also rising at many places.

Deputy Secretary of the Revenue Department Raj Raten said that the flood alert has been issued in Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Baghpat,  Meerut, Aligarh, Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, Hathras and Mathura districts.
