The driver was dragged out and beaten after the car rammed people in an ATM queue in Solapur
Solapur:
At least 15 people standing in an ATM queue in Maharashtra's Solapur were wounded today after being hit by a car allegedly driven by a drunk driver.
At around 12 pm, these people were waiting for their turn at a Bank of India ATM when the speeding Indica car ploughed into them.
The driver, Santosh Madge, was dragged out and beaten by a crowd before being turned over to the police. The owner of the car, Subhash Chandra, has also been arrested. Mr Madge may have been drunk, the police said, but added that tests will confirm this.
The injured were taken to three different hospitals nearby. Two persons are said to be critical.
Long queues at banks and ATMs have been a common sight since the government banned the two highest currency notes on November 8, leaving millions of people desperate for valid cash.
