Chirang District: A 16-year-old girl was dragged, beaten and shot at point blank range at least nine times in front of her parents by militants of the outlawed National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbijit) faction in Assam's Chirang district, who suspected the teenager of being a police informer.
Last week, heavily armed militants dragged the teenager, Priya Basumatary, out of her house in Dwimugri village on the Indo-Bhutan border in broad daylight, and, reportedly, made her family watch the brutal execution. The family was also forced not to turn their eyes away as Priya was shot several times, reports suggest.
The teenager was killed as revenge of an incident earlier in the day where five cadres of the militant group were killed close by, allegedly after the girl supplied information to policemen about their whereabouts.
Reports also say that Priya's body was lying in a field in the village for two days as her parents were afraid to retrieve it.
In June this year, a 35-year-old woman was executed by another militant group in Meghalaya, also on the suspicion of being a police informer. In that case, militants first molested the woman and then shot six times through the head at point blank range with an automatic assault rifle outside her home. Police said the woman's five children, locked up in the house along with their father by the assailants, first saw them assault their mother and then blow her head off.
