Kolkata: Nearly 200 new dengue cases were recorded from various districts of West Bengal even though no new reports of deaths caused by the vector-borne disease were registered in the last 24 hours.
The number of dengue deaths remained at 17, the number of people affected by the vector-borne disease shot up to 3,201 since January, West Bengal Director of Health Services Biswaranjan Satpathy told PTI.
"We have not received any dengue-death report from anywhere in the state in the last 24 hours and thus the toll remained at 17," Mr Satpathy said.
He said that 197 new cases of dengue were reported from various districts of West Bengal.
But there are cases reported from different districts most from Hooghly's Serampore and North 24 Pargana's Dumdum area, he said.
The state government has started awareness drive through advertisement in dailies as well as in collaboration with the local civic bodies, Mr Satpathy said.
"A massive campaigning has been started and we hope if people adhere to those guidelines we can keep a check on this disease," he said.
