New Delhi:
A court in Delhi will pronounce its order in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case against Congress leader Sajjan Kumar and five others on April 30.
Mr Kumar, along with five others, is accused of allegedly inciting a mob to kill five Sikhs in the Delhi cantonment area in 1984. He has been charged with rioting, dacoity, murder, inciting violence, and damaging public property.
This is one of the three cases against the former Congress MP from Delhi. The five others who are facing trial for their alleged role in the killings are - Balwan Khokkar, Kishan Khokkar, Mahender Yadav, Girdhari Lal and Captain Bhagmal.
In 2010, the Supreme Court refused to quash the charges against Mr Kumar and said the trial would continue against him. It had also pulled up the CBI for failing to conclude its arguments and taking too much time. The court had also said that if the investigating agency failed to complete its arguments soon, it would go ahead and deliver the verdict without hearing its side.
The CBI concluded its arguments in the case last week.
The 1984 anti-Sikh riots broke out after the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984. Ten different commissions and committees have looked into the 1984 riots in last three decades.
The case against Mr Kumar was registered in 2005 on the recommendation of the Nanavati Commission. The CBI had filed two charge sheets against him and the other accused in January 2010.
