New Delhi:
The Supreme Court today postponed the final hearing of the 1993 Mumbai blasts case to March 29. This was done after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) told the Court that few Marathi documents were to be translated into English and they needed six weeks for it.
The hearing was supposed to begin in the Supreme Court today.
The Court had to hear appeals from 179 accused who challenged their conviction and also hear the CBI cases challenging the acquittal of 48 persons.
On March 12, 1993 there were bomb blasts in 12 places in Mumbai that killed over 200 people and injured 700 others. The blast was an aftermath of the demolition of Babri mosque at Ayodhya.
The Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) court gave death sentence to 11 persons and life sentence to 22 persons. Others were given sentence ranging from ten years to three years.
Actor Sanjay Dutt is one of the accused convicted under Arms Act. He was sentenced to six years in jail. Currently, he is on bail.
