After a lull of over a month, Pakistan Rangers resorted to heavy firing and mortar shelling from October 23.
Two Armymen have been killed in a major ceasefire violation by Pakistan along the Line of Control in North Kashmir's Gurez sector.
"The Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire by opening firing in Gurez sector at 12.30 pm which lasted till 2.00 pm," an army spokesman said in Srinagar.
He said two jawans were killed in the firing by Pakistani troops, who used automatic rifles, machine guns and mortars to target the Indian posts.
"Our troops responded to the unprovoked aggression in equal measure," he added.
The ceasefire violation comes five days ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled to visit to Jammu and Kashmir on November 7.
A week ago, field commanders of the Border Security Force or BSF and Pakistan Rangers agreed to respect the bilateral ceasefire and work together to bring down tension on the border in Jammu and Kashmir.
This was agreed at a flag meeting between BSF's Deputy Inspector General (DIG) BS Kasana and Pakistan Rangers' Brigadier Waseem Jaffar Bhatti on the international border in Suchetgarh sector of Jammu district on Tuesday.

It resulted in the death of a civilian and injuries to 14 others.
