Two National Democratic Front of Bodoland or NDFB-S cadres, wanted in connection with the massacre of tribals, were killed in an encounter today. The operation was carried out by a joint team of Assam Police and Army.
"Based on specific intelligence, personnel of the Assam police and Army launched an operation in Oxiguri village in Assam's Chirang district early in the morning today," Inspector General of Police, BTAD, LR Bishnoi said.
"Two NDFB-S militants were killed in the encounter," he said.
The militants were identified as Gwndai and Junthi, both 'platoon commanders' of the NDFB-S.
"They were responsible for the massacre of tribals on December 23, 2014.
"They had also brutally killed a Class 10 student Priya Basumatary, whom they suspected of being a police informer," Mr Bishnoi said.
The senior police official said one M-16 rifle along with magazines, an AK-47 rifle with magazines and one pistol were recovered from them along with a huge quantity of ammunition and other personal items.
