Guwahati: Flash floods, triggered by heavy rains in the past few days, have affected nearly two lakh people in seven district of Assam. The Brahmaputra river is flowing above the danger mark in the state's Jorhat and Dibrugarh districts.
Lower Assam's Kokrajhar district is the worst-affected, with 87 villages flooded. Across the state, about 280 villages have been hit by floods.
Across Assam, a total of 12,000 hectares of crop land is under water.
45 relief camps have been opened up across the flooded districts; 34 of them are in Kokrajhar. Over 18,000 people have taken shelter in these relief camps.
Many roads and bridges have been damaged in the affected districts, however, no casualties were reported due to floods.
In neighbouring Meghalaya, a huge landslide at Thansen and Ratachara on National Highway 6 in the state's East Jaintia Hills district has disconnected southern Assam, Tripura, Mizoram and parts of Meghalaya and Manipur from the rest of the country.
Authorities say they are trying to clear the debris due to landslides as soon as possible.
In the state's West Garo Hills district, a nine-year-old girl drowned on Tuesday due to a sudden surge in the Ganol river. So far, her body has not been traced.
All schools in the Garo Hills region are closed for the next few days and flood warning have been issued to all districts in the state.
