2 Soldiers Killed In J&K Landmine Blast Close To Line Of Control

Two soldiers have been killed and three others were injured in a mine blast near the Line of Control in the Nowshera-Sunderbani sector in Jammu and Kashmir, sources said on Saturday. Officials sources said an officer and a soldier were killed in action after an army patrol stepped on a landmine near the LoC.

Those injured have been shifted to an army hospital where the condition of two is said to be critical.

"There have been two fatal casualties. Three others are injured," a senior police officer said.

"During an area domination patrol in Naushera sector, a mine blast occurred, wherein, two Indian Army soldiers suffered critical injuries and later succumbed to their injuries. Another soldier who received injuries was evacuated and is under treatment," a defence spokesperson in Jammu region said.

"Lieutenant Rishi Kumar and Sepoy Manjit were brave and extremely committed to the profession of soldiering and have made the supreme sacrifice for the nation in the line of active duty. Lieutenant Rishi Kumar was a resident of Begusarai in Bihar. Sepoy Manjit Singh was a resident of Sirvewala, Bhatinda, Punjab. The nation and Indian Army shall forever remain indebted to the brave hearts for their supreme sacrifice," the spokesperson said.

Nine soldiers including two officers have been killed without any success against terrorists believed to be hiding in the forests of Poonch.

This is the longest counter-terror operation in the region in the last 18 years.
