Srinagar: Barely 30 hours after they killed a Sashastra Seema Bal jawan and injured another soldier at Banihal, the Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested two attackers.
21-year-old Gazanfar Ahmad, a resident of Banihal and a third year student at a college in Anantnag and 25-year-old Arif, another Banihal resident have been arrested. The police are now looking for the third person involved in the attack - 22 year old Aquib Waheed from Banihal. His uncle was a divisional commander of Hizbul Mujahideen.
On Wednesday, the terrorists attacked a SSB unit just when the troops were returning to their camp after patrolling the Jawahar tunnel. They snatched two weapons from the SSB personnel before fleeing.
"I am happy to announce that within 30 hours we have been able to arrest both the people involved in this attack, both the weapons snatched from SSB personnel have been recovered", said SDS Jamwal, Inspector General Jammu.
Police say families played a crucial role to track them down. Sources say terror outfits are pushing young men towards violence and instigating them to prove their capability by carrying out such attacks before joining their ranks.
"We talked with the family members who told us where can be the possible locations to find them, we scanned those locations, we are very thankful to the families for reposing trust in us, we will never break their trust", said Basant Rath, Deputy Inspector General, Ramban.
