Shopian encounter: The police said five terrorists have been shot dead
New Delhi: Five terrorists were shot dead by security forces in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district, the police said today.
Troops of the Central Reserve Police Force, Rashtriya Rifles and the Special Operations Group were on a joint patrol when they came under fire, the police said. They retaliated, killing the five terrorists.
The cordon-and-search operation was launched in Shopian this morning after getting information about the presence of terrorists in the area, a police officer said.
This was the third encounter in Shopian in four days. Nine Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were shot dead by security forces on Sunday and Monday.
