Two Delhi-based tourists were allegedly gang-raped and assaulted by five men in Goa. The men had abducted them posing as officers of the anti-narcotics cell of police, police said today.
The women, aged 22 and 30, who had gone to holiday in Goa, had been kept prisoners for two days at a flat in north Goa's Anjuna beach.
They had been abducted on Monday night, on way to Anjuna beach. "The accused stopped their taxi midway, at Arpora village, posing as policemen," said Superintendent of Police Umesh Gaonkar.
They allegedly searched the women's bags and then took them to a nearby flat, where they allegedly beat them and raped them.
It was the taxi driver who informed the police and lodged a complaint. All five accused were arrested from the flat on Wednesday and the women were rescued.
The men were identified as Travor Joseph, Jeevan Pawar, Kamlesh Chowdhary, Ajay Kumar Khushwa and Nadim Sayyed.
They were attached to a controversial nightclub at Calangute village. The building was recently demolished by locals, who alleged that it was a den for prostitution.
