The Army is leading the rescue operation.
Churu:
Rescue operations to recover a two-year-old who fell into an open borewell on Monday afternoon in Rajasthan's Churu district have so far been unsuccessful.
The Army, which is conducting the operation, has lowered cameras that can take photos inside water to look for Radheyshyam who is stuck in the borewell at his grandfather's field.
"While playing, he got left behind close to the well. When my sister went to look for him, she saw Radheshyam falling into the well," his sister Savita said.
Despite digging up to 40 feet into the 360-foot borewell, the Army engineers have not been able to recover the boy.
"We have gone till complete depth. We could not find anything. Now what we have recommended the civil administration is to get underwater cameras so we can see if the child is there," Major Rajneesh Kumar said.
The incident comes even after a Supreme Court ruling in 2010 that came down heavily on open borewells in fields. The top court said it would be the responsibility of the field-owner and the district administration to cover all open and abandoned borewells to prevent such accidents.
With each passing hour, hope of recovering the two-year-old is slowly fading.
