New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked for one-on-one meetings with 23 parliamentarians from his party, the BJP. Among those summoned are seven ministers. The mood is expected to be somber - the group defaulted on public meetings they were meant to address in Delhi which is expected to vote for its next government in February.

Every Tuesday in this session of Parliament, the PM has met with BJP lawmakers to share his government's agenda and to inform them about how to behave in Parliament. At this morning's session, the PM underscored his displeasure with those guilty of last-minute cancellations for Delhi rallies, said sources.

The party had assigned nearly 250 MPs to address about 400 public meetings as part of its campaign in the capital.

In the last election in Delhi in December 2013, the BJP won the most seats but decided against attempting to form the government because it had not won a majority. Arvind Kejriwal of the Aam Admi Party then headed a minority government with support from the Congress, but quit after 49 days because an anti-graft proposal he had championed was stalled by other parties.

The Centre has since then been governing Delhi through President's rule, and will do so till the next elections which are likely to be held in February 2015.
