Actor Salman Khan, being tried for culpable homicide not amounting to murder in connection with a 2002 hit-and-run case, will appear in a court in Mumbai on Friday to record his statement under section 313 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
The trial, which has seen huge delays, will now enter its final phase. Under section 313 of the CrPC, the accused in given a chance to explain after the evidence has been recorded in court.
Mr Khan had made a plea to defer the procedure by three weeks on the grounds that his presence is required in a Jodhpur court which is trying him for allegedly killing a black buck during the filming of Hum Saath Saath Hain in 1998.
Mr Khan was arrested after his car had rammed a bakery in suburban Bandra in the wee hours of September 28, 2002. One person was killed and four were injured.
