The MeT department has predicted more rain in the state in the next two days.
Twenty three people have been killed in the last 36 hours in landslides and incidents of house collapse as heavy rain continued to lash the hill state of Uttarakhand on Saturday.
17 people have been killed in the Pauri, Yamkeshwar and Landsdowne Tehsils of Pauri district. A landslide in the Kath Bangal village on the outskirts of Dehradun early this morning claimed six lives.
The local administration is working on a war-footing to rescue the three people feared trapped under the rubble in Kath Bangal.
The downpour has caused all rivers including the Ganges river in Haridwar to swell and flow over the danger limit. Due to impending landslides, all people living close to the river banks have been evacuated to a safe area.
The Meteorological department has issued a 12 hour warning in the Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Pithoragarh, Champa-wat and Nainital districts of the state.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted offering condolences to families of the deceased.
