28 Engineering Students Suspended for Ragging Freshers in Himachal Pradesh

NIT Hamirpur has suspended 28 students after being found guilty of ragging

Chandigarh: 28 engineering students at the National Institute of Technology in Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh have been suspended after they were found guilty of ragging freshers.

The 2nd year students have been asked by the college management to vacate hostels with immediate effect and barred from any campus accommodation for the next one year.

Officials at the government-funded college told media-persons that its anti-ragging cell had received a complaint last week through a text message about some seniors ragging juniors on the pretext of introduction after academic hours.

An inquiry by the management found 28 students guilty of breaching the code of conduct.

"The college management will decide the future of the suspended students soon and their parents would be intimated about the decision," NIT Registar, AK Sangha said.

The institute has had a history of such incidents in the past as well. In 2011, 3 students were arrested for ragging and inflicting injuries to juniors.
